Charlotte Dumas focuses on the human-animal relationship and its place in history. She is fascinated by animals that have developed a relationship with humans. The photographer presents his models (police dogs, horses, wolves, tigers), with a great sense of presence and character. She draws her inspiration from the painters of the nineteenth century, Eugène Delacroix and Théodore Géricault. Attracted by the heroism and the position of animals in human history, it pays tribute to the portraits she realizes.
In 2011 Charlotte Dumas Retrieved began the project ten years after the attacks of 11 September 2001. At the time, nearly 100 search dogs had been requisitioned reinforcements to come to the rescue of the World Trade Center site in New York. The dogs worked tirelessly alongside the rescuers to find survivors. 10 years later, Charlotte Dumas discovered that only 15 search dogs are still alive. She decides to visit them and follow them in their daily lives each retired after their heroic work and photograph. These very old dog portraits are touching and show a whole new perspective on the event that has marked the first decade of this century.

In 2000 she graduated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam. Then Charlotte continued her studies at the Rijksakademie Amsterdam where she graduated in 2002. Charlotte Dumas in 2008 awarded the Dordrecht Museum From Scheffer for his project Palermo 7. Charlotte Dumas has participated in multiple Expostions.
