Une saison en Lorraine

Le voyage européen de Stéphane Duroy a commencé il y a une vingtaine d’années. C’est au cours de son travail en ex R.D.A. à partir de 1990, qu’il prend conscience de la possibilité d’interprétation de l’histoire au travers d’un présent porteur des traces indélébiles des heures tragiques du XXe siècle. De la Guerre de 14 à l’avènement du IIIe Reich Stéphane Duroy décrypte les incompréhensions meurtrières contemporaines. Ces photographies réalisées en Lorraine, région particulièrement touchée par ces conflits, s’inscrivent dans cette perspective. Elles renvoient à ce passé et sont autant de questions sur l’idée même de la mémoire.

Stéphane Duroy began in 1977 working on the vast changes in England at the time of Thatcherism … Meanwhile, he began in 1980, work on West Berlin, which will lead, after the fall of the Wall in the former East Germany and Poland. In 1991, he received at the World Press Photo, the first prize in the category “nature and environment” for his photo on the pollution in the former German Democratic Republic. He received in 2003 a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, which allows him to do this work on Portugal.
