Tours et détours
de La Havane à Paris
This book highlights a life as a work, a photographer’s life, but also an artist who crosses many countries, from Cuba to France, including staying in the United States. With constant as South America and the Caribbean, and Spain backdrop.
Which means a peer network with all these cultures. These are the cities: Havana, New York, Madrid, Paris, with a concentration of artistic and literary figures, which attract Jesse Fernandez. His photographs are so many renditions of his meetings with writers, painters, musicians, dancers, actors … The list is eloquent and varied: Alicia Alonso, Francis Bacon, Jorge Luis Borges, Luis Buñuel, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, Emil Cioran, Julio Cortázar, Salvador Dali, Miles Davis, Marlene Dietrich, Marcel Duchamp, Carlos Fuentes, William de Kooning, Ernest Hemingway, Wifredo Lam, Gabriel García Márquez, Joan Miró, Françoise Sagan, Antonio Saura, Elizabeth Taylor, Edgar Varese …
The work develops between the 50s and 80s. If it concerns first place Cuba before the Castro revolution and during it, it is not provided the starting point of the photographer’s career: it began in Colombia in 1952, after studying painting.

Born in 1925 in Havana (Cuba). At the crossroads of different forms of artistic expression: photography, sculpture, drawing and painting, he has conducted extensive photographic career by working in various publications: he has worked for Life magazine and the newspaper Revolución in Havana, at the time of the coming to power of Fidel Castro. But it is above the world of art and literature which he felt very close to it has been his work as a portraitist. He died in 1986 in France, where he settled in 1977, having lived and worked in the United States and Spain.
Bernard Plossu
Photographe

Plossu Bernard, born in South Vietnam in 1945, he grew up surrounded by photographs of the desert taken by his father when he went skiing on the dunes of the Sahara in 1937 with Roger Frisian-Roche. Modesty, sensuality, emotion, joy, here is what is the “sap” that already permeate the images of the self that landed in Mexico in 1965 and 1967 to join his grandparents. Travel as a Mexican issue 15 years later its editor Claude Nori. A book that, as the creator of Ed. Contrejour has become a sort of bible for a generation suddenly uninhibited by his freedom of tone and its intimate and poetic vision.
